Blaine Young is a versatile journalist whose skill set includes video, audio and writing, but who mainly focuses on being a photojournalist. Based in Central and South Texas, she is currently available for assignment and travel. Her freelance clients include Getty Images, The Texas Tribune and Public Health Watch. She also worked as the photographer for the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung and was a co-creator, reporter and writer for the podcast A Campbell Never Quits.
Blaine has always had the heart of an extrovert and the social anxiety of a chihuahua in a thunderstorm. In the words of her mom, while Blaine may have been shy and soft-spoken as a child, at home you “couldn’t get her to shut up.” Now, with the anxiety mostly gone, she enjoys learning about others. She believes the most important part of the journalistic process is connecting with the people involved, and with that mindset will always put personal connection, people and community first in her reporting.
She hopes to continue her photojournalism journey by photographing and reporting on issues that impact everyday Texans, from climate change and human rights to local economy and politics.
